Binding the Topknot
To the next generation of descendants of our ancestors and there are many of us - those who choose our ancestral way - I wish to start a new conversation.
It's time to bind.
It's time to bind the ancestral future we promised.
Fought for by our ancients. Our ancestors. Our elders. Our parents. Our guardians. Our families. Ourselves. Our children. Our grandchildren.
It's time to bind the strands of our topknot to make our head sacred again. Ancestral sacred.
What does this mean?
It means this. You know how we want ancestral more? Our people's way. Our old people. To be masters of our own universe. Our logics and rationales. Our sacred and noa. Our way.
Because it fills us. Our together.
Because we know at the tip of our nose that our ancestors' us together is our us apart. And we know intuitively that our apart is not good for us. It makes us ill. Sick. All kinds of ill.
It keeps us individual me myself I.
Which is our separation. As in the creation story.
And we want to be collective me myself us. Because it’s better for us. It makes us better. All of us. Ancient. Everywhere.
Collective-self intelligence – me myself us aware. Which trumps individual-self intelligence – me myself I aware.
It's a real dream. In our DNA. We know this. We want this. Ancestral.
But we figure we don't have the means to make it real.
That's the bind I'm talking about. The bind of our individual strands into our collective topknot.
What this deliberately-bound-topknot-of-all-our-strands does is bring us together.
But not just any old together. It’s our very best together.
Where we bring our aroha together.
Which we use with sacred intent for our collective benefit.
We can’t do this right now because our sacred is missing. Our ancients hid her in plain sight until we’re ready. We’re ready now.
Without our sacred we cannot see our beauty. Our sacred makes our collective. Our beauty is our together.
It gets to be sacred because of the special effort required to be beautiful. All at once. Together.
It gets to be sacred because collective together is a behaviour. It’s our best behaviour.
It is our science. It’s the behaviour of aroha – watching, listening, multisensory, filling, completing. In your own way. Your choice.
Fulfilling the single requirement of ancestral thriving – love aroha.
It feeds mauri life-force-connection. Which makes us ora sun-healthy. Mana how much aroha you have is its dominion. Tapu what you do with that aroha is its reverence.
Mana and Tapu. Dominion with reverence.
The ancestral way. Choice.
Your own unique way.
Freedom. Of choice.
Your experience.
Of life’s purpose. To grow aroha.
All at once. Holistic.
The behaviour of filling space, the distance between us, with aroha so that time which measures where we are stops.
We are everywhere. Ancient is space not time.
This is your personal experience of the greatest thing about us. Our aroha. And how we grow it. Apart. Deliberately. As individuals.
So we can bring it together. Deliberately. As individuals. To make our collective.
To make us better.
Me myself us.

Hawaiki is my destination. My complete ancient.
Ahorangi is my way. My bind ancient.
This is the heart of the Ahorangi way.
It is the Kawa of Io – the kawa of sacred aroha.
Its purpose is transformation. Ancestral transformation.
Ancient spaceless.
Ancient timeless.
Ancient knowledge.
Ancient expert.
Ancient aroha.
Ancient safe.
Ancient sacred.
Ancient collective.
Ancient complete.
Ancient bind.
This is the heart of the Ahorangi way.
Freedom to be and have, to live and thrive, whilst navigating the ocean of someone else’s will.
Which is what Tūkanguha the -warrior-who-strives said to his brother Tangaroa of the sea in the creation narrative of our elders.
Ahorangi is an ancestral algorithm. It decodes everything by showing its intent. Which is its nature.
For starters, our language. Every piece of information supplied here is explained in their sound. Which makes their words. Which hold their picture.
Which is the light in their sound.
Which means your own personal tohunga expert is with you in the word. And they are your ancestor. Ancestor teaches descendant.
It can raise dying languages. As long as it has one born and bred native speaker to action what it means.
It goes inside the sound of its words and finds its intention. It turns on its light to see the biggest picture held in the word of its sound. Now we know. This sound with this light produces this word with this world.
This is its intention. Act this way. Be. And you will. Have.
Behave to the picture in the word which is the light in its sound. Sound makes word. It has light in it. The light makes the sound’s picture. Everytime.
More light. More picture. More behave.
More world in the word.
More behaviour in the world.
Behave to beget the world.
Its natural world. And what is that?
Our ancestors’ way. Māori from Hawaiki.
Hawaikiian.
Behave ancestral. Behave. Ancient. It’s everywhere. Ancient is space not time.
In realizing our ancestral word holds our ancestral world and what this means for us, we want to learn our language.
We want our old people’s word, our sound. Because of the light it sheds on our world. We want our world.
Who doesn’t want our world?
Whole. Together. With intent. Sacred intent.
Better. Instinctive. Intuitive.
Intuition with nature. Tohunga expert and student.
The whakapapa right. The expert of dominion teaching the student of reverence.
We want explanation. We must have it. Which is its intelligence.
Suddenly we know not to sell the sound – the language. Sell instead its world. The light. Put the ‘l’ back into the word to make its world. The difference is natural.
Language grows to its world.
Stone world, stone language. Tree world, tree language. Ocean world, ocean language. Pākehā world, pākehā language. Natural world, natural language.
Grow nature and its language speaks nature.
The nature of the stone. Nature of the tree. Nature of the ocean. Nature of the Pākehā. Nature of nature. Natural. Act natural. For natural language. Te reo Māori.
And it can be done in a concrete jungle. In the middle of a Pākehā mainstream school. In a condemned building upgraded. It doesn’t have to be the forest. At the ocean.
In nature.
Nature is everywhere.
Teach nature and be everywhere.
Māori Hawaikiian. Holistic.
Tohunga expert and student.
Behaviour is nature’s language. It is the common language of our species. It is the common language of all species. Behaviour.
If you live on Papatūānuku beneath Ranginui on this planet we call home, then behaviour is how we communicate to each other.

We confuse ourselves when we speak.
For instance; we come in peace. No you don’t. Your behaviour says otherwise. You do not come in peace.
Listen to the words? Watch the behaviour? Watch. Everytime. Behaviour speaks the best language.
Behaviour is being and having whatever you do.
Whatever you save. To repeat. Practise.
To be and have. Behave. Become expert in.
That’s behaviour. Portable. Copy and paste.
Which is fundamentally what this is about.
This ancestral algorithm is about a copy and paste behaviour from land to water to land.
The behaviour of living and thriving. Under all conditions.
Whatever land we’re on. Whatever ocean we’re on.
Physical. Metaphysical.
In the body. In the heart.
In the mind. In the spirit. All spaces.
Whenever we’re on either. All time.
There’s the purpose. There’s its intent. Its thought. Word. Behaviour. Mastery. Future. Awakening. Ancestral.
Holistic together.
The Ahorangi way is our ancients best knowledge on how to live and thrive.
It’s purpose is to transform us. Starting with all and any descendant who hears this message because we want ancestral.
The transformation is from individual-self intelligence. How we currently live. To collective-self intelligence. How we wish to live.
Ahorangi has been living this intention for three decades plus as a family.
We have been mastering it, growing it, blooming it, fulfilling it, completing it.
This is what you have been watching all these years. Ahorangi telling our ancestors' story of us. In as many forms as we could create.
From way back.
Ngā Tama a Rangi, the name sort of says it all. Te whare atua the house of nature. Our nature.
A kapa haka team in Hamilton. 1986 Christchurch Aotearoa festival. 1988 Whangarei when we pūkana’d everyone out with a kanikani to music thingy.
Tahitohou doing its thing. Old-new oxymoron. Hawaikihou. New homeland.
The spirit never dies. Aroha is the spirit. The aroha of our experience of freedom of choice.
Ngā Tama a Rangi kōhanga reo language nest in Hamilton. Described to me by Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi of the Kōhanga Reo as, 'the people who fulfilled the kaumātua's dream'.
Which is a pretty cool statement considering none of us speak Māori past the Rangatahi books from school.
We learn the creation story rote every week. It teaches us our language.
We follow our ancestors’ instruction directly without deviation. Here we are children, you are the descendants of Sky and Earth. Your ancestors say so.
Te whare atua is the house of nature. Your nature. Collective. Me myself us.
Te whare tangata is the house of people. Your people. Individual. Me myself I.
Sacred brings the individual of te whare tangata together as the descendants of sky and earth. Sacred leaves only the aroha. This is its purpose.
To take the aroha of our experience as individuals, to make our collective.
Te whare atua. Me myself us. Aroha turns me to us.
Here’s the behaviour. Us me. The words. The thinking.
Pull the zoom out and we’re talking to three, four, five year olds. Ancestrals.

Te Kura o Ahorangi, Hamilton. 1986. A bunch of boys every morning running with taiaha through the streets of Kirikiriroa.
Training in the matua of themselves. Where atua collective is made.
Listening to their old people’s story of themselves. In karakia form. Chant form. Song. Story. Art. Maurākau. Games. Kapahaka. Behaviour form. In life form.
Te ao tīpuna the ancestral world. Starting with Te Kore Te Pō Te Ao through to Te ao tangata.
Year in, year out. Doing our very best to ancestralize the space of our time.
In the middle of suburbia. Hamilton city. Ancestrals.
Te Hei o Tahoka kapahaka 1990ish.
The group that freaks everyone out at Ngāruawāhia on the barge stage with a whakangahau item about Tāne climbing to the skies to fetch the kits of knowledge.
Done to soundtrack and all. More than 60 people. Kids aged five. Families. Behaving together.
Singing. Dancing. Performing.
Performance of life. Natural. Doing kapahaka together.
The parents of the children in our kōhanga reo and kura.
If the children are learning their ancestral world at school, what are the parents doing at home?
Better to pull everyone together. Set the intent. Arrow and target are the same.
Children and parents. Family. At home doing their thing.
Fighting for ancient. Ancestrals.
Ahorangi Genesis the musical stage show about our old people's creation story.
We pull together all of our children’s teachings of the previous seven years and make a musical.
We take it around the country tip to tip coast to coast. About 50 venues. Nooks and crannys.
To show ourselves the portfolio of possibilities. Hawaikihou. Make our ancient relevant.
So it shines in the eyes of the next generation. Puts a smile on their faces.
And it does. And still does.
They tell me.
What is it that shines in the eyes?
Aroha. Aroha for our way. Our old people’s way.
As AhorangiG does its thing at night, two other shows run through the day. Te Aho o Te Rangi, the baby crew who visit Kōhanga Reo. They tell a cut-down version of the creation story.
And Ahurangi, the rangatahi crew who perform everywhere to everyone. They tell the story of Māui – the quest for fire. Their message of unique potential smashes all divisions. The kids and their teachers say so.
Another family crew Ahurewa continues on with Māui in the same vein.
Through the mid to late 90s they perform to almost 1500 schools of all deciles.
What is the intent? To reconnect the dots of our ancestors’ picture of where we come from.
Into the radio drama version of 150 stories through the early 2000s.
These are about telling the old story in a new way.
And for a listening only audience. Radio.
Poutiriao the young rangatahi superheroes with the power of the ancestral gods Tāne, Tāwhiri, Tangaroa etc.
The Uimākihoi little rascals appraising the world around them through ancestral eyes. Finding nature in the bush, at the sea. Finding nature in the city. Human nature.
More ancestral sound for our ancestral ears to chew on.
And the television version of the same thing.
Tikitiki for little kids. Tūtepuehu with Tūpoutahi. Te Tīmatanga series. Koi for rangatahi. Ngahau for rangatahi. Tomomai for little people. Waka Huia stories. Documentaries. Music videos.

Into tribal level stories where we put a geographic location to the principles worked through in the city. From Taupiri back home to Tongariro.
We pull our old people together. Found our tribal words and sayings, ditties and songs. Record them and their kōrero.
Spend as much time as we can with our children on our marae at Waihi south Tūwharetoa. The marae being the best place for them to be their ancestral philosophy of living. Collective. Us me.
Find as many young people as we can, bring them back to the marae, teach them Kapahaka. And off they go. Find as many old people and do the same thing. Off they go. Ancestrals.
Into a new decade and a move to the middle of Te Arawa canoe, Rotovegas.
2015 Tāreikura our girls’ ancestral grooming school begins in Rotorua. They go viral with Poiyonce, a poi done to a Beyonce song. Hawaikihou. Make the old new.
For the new generation. Put it in their eyes. Pride. Power.
Mana. Tapu. Mauri. Aroha. The clothes are neither here nor there.
Into 2016 and Ahorangi Next Generation the reality show gives a glimpse into what we’re on about.
Into 2017 and Rau maurākau into schools bigtime up and down the country.
Into Tāreikura holiday programmes same thing inundated with ancestrals.
We start binding in 2018.
About 20 wānanga are held this year throughout the country with people feeling their ancestral.
Ahorangi bind them all through the karakia sacred intent process on the marae. Our people get it. We understand in the flesh.
Gather up our intent like strands of hair. To see that our intent is the same.
Bind them with everything we believe in, karakia.
Speak to the intent. Tell us your contribution to the collective sacred intent. The end.
These are testers for late in the year for the binding of the Kingitanga at Pūkawa for its 160th year anniversary.
The task is to lay up a new vision. Kia hira mai te whēkite o te rangi.
The new vision is this.
Bring back the sacred. Bind. Individual experience. With sacred.
The sacred yields the aroha. Gather up all the aroha. Bind it in the topknot. Of Te Kingitanga. Sanctified by the sacred pin of Te Heuheu.
This leads to the here and now. And the point of the history given above.
This call to bind is not random.
It has been worked at for over three decades.
Placing its vision in the eyes of the mokopuna.
Binding it in the presence of our Mana and Tapu.
We have been constructing a pathway for getting sacred again.
As individuals. To be together. Collective.
Sacred is collective. Collective is together. Together is our beauty. Ancestral beauty. Ancestral mastery. Ancestral future.
Collective is worthless in the individual mind. Collective is our sacred. The individual mind is everywhere. Our sacred has no worth. Anywhere.
We are worthless. We are ugly. We have no beauty. We do not wish to be us. We are ill.
For us to smile we must see our beauty. Our beauty is together.
Let's do so.
Here is the Ahorangi intention.
To make sacred.
To see our beauty.
To bind our aroha.
To transform us.
From individual-self intelligence.
To collective-self intelligence.
Ancestral.

Our ancestral intention is atua collective.
It sleeps in the stone. Dreams in the leaf. Awakens in the bird. Lives in us. It binds in the topknot. Joins in the bonepin. Harmonizes in the comb. And is free in the white-tipped feather.
Our intention is to bind our individual strands. Reconnect our separation. Fulfill our ancestral future. Live and thrive together.
Best ancestral info going forward.
We’re here to grow aroha. Behave it. And here’s how.
The Ahorangi way. The journey of nature. Destination Hawaiki.
Ancestrally fulfilled and completed.
And here we go. Transform. All descendants of sky and earth. As described by our ancestors in the story of where they come from.
Everyone, everywhere, everytime. Everything. Welcome.
Here’s how we will do this.
Our task is to bring all ancestrals together. Which is what I’m doing now.
We are people who know and choose that we do not want that. Whatever that is. That thing. Individual-self intelligence.
We can describe it at many levels. What it’s done to us. The effects. The residue. The pain. The mamae. The hopeless. The no future.
Or the no problem version of the he or she who flies through it all. And still sees it for what it is, individual-self intelligence doing its thing. Not good enough. In the gut.
So we begin disengaging from the matrix. We do something about it. Make a stand for another way.
Maybe we learn our language as a doorway. Maybe we’ve already got it chanting off the tongue. Maybe we grew up in full immersion Māori language nests, units, schools and wānanga. Maybe we didn’t.
At another level, to help identify Ancestrals, maybe we decided not to do the religious service on the last day of the tangi for our loved one but rather an ancestral version. Why? Because it felt better.
Maybe we decided to keep our loved one at home because it’s weird down the marae. All of this is in the mix for Ancestrals.
We want another way. Where we’re good. Happy. Beautiful. Alive and kicking. Ancestral. Proof of life. Bonafide. In our genes.
We already know. Because we do it all the time. Look after the aroha of the people. We just don’t know anymore to the fullest extent what the intent of looking after the people is.
Yet it is as natural as sunshine to us. Being together.
When it counts. Birth. Life. Death.
We are the ancestrals. We want to know why.
At our blind big all over the world we’re called millenials. Next gen. We want another way.
We’ve opted out of the current one.
It sucks. Just wrong.
If I have to explain it sort of proves the point. Wrong on so many levels.
And you don’t see it.
Or you do.
Slave. Master.
Can’t even be bothered engaging. Outta here. Millenials are on their way. Thinking. Hard.

To master. Grow. Bloom. Fulfill. Complete. Our aroha. For us.
That’s all.

Bind the intent. One topknot.
Hawaikiian. Holistic.
This is how we will do it.
Bring any generation but particularly next generation tohunga female and male together to deliver our best ancestral information on living and thriving.
It is the kawa of Io that sits in front of our noses placed there by our ancestors for the right time in space.
Whatever this means to anyone at any level.

Its divisions.
Which put space between us which is distance.
The politics of what we think.
The religion of what we believe.

The individual only sees himself. Division is blind.
These ‘divisions’ are our choices of growing aroha.
We love them dearly with all our hearts.
They are our greatest freedoms of expression.
They are our freedom of choice.
They are our freedom.
Yes they are. Without question.
The expression is yours its aroha is ours.
The experience is yours the aroha is ours.
We keep our experience as a strand of hair.
When we bind the hair in, the aroha it grew comes to the topknot.
Sacred. Fulfilled. Completed. The collective topknot.
Our individual experience, everything we are, is given the greatest worth.
Every part of our grand experience of life.
The ups and downs ins and outs, the struggle, the strivance, the grit the apple.
The weak moments, the great moments, the good the bad and the ugly.
Every part of our experience has value.
Every thought word action that makes us has value.
Nothing is wasted.
Because they all start in aroha.
The kurawaka pledge of our intention.
To do our best to grow aroha. The kura in the waka.
This is what we choose to do with it for our very best learning for us.
On how to best grow aroha for us.
Through you. Experience. Strand.
Thank you.
Your strand of aroha-making experience is given proper place and value.
It blooms in the topknot of our sacred intent to be collective.
Our individual experience empowers our collective purpose.
To grow more aroha.
Bind everyone.
Bind politics. Political parties. Whomever else in the mix at any level.
That’s what we’re there for. Us.
Ask the question.
We want to hear it.
We want to say.
What is our intent? Best intent.
Tahitokī. Ancestral thought.
Where did we get our thinking from? Who taught us?
Our intent. The future.
The mokopuna. The next generation.
Everytime.
All whakapapa lead to the grandchildren.
The politician – and here’s how I’ll do it.
Here’s how I’ll grow my aroha.
On our behalf.
For the future. Of my grandchildren.
To the right. To the left. Down the middle. Green. Brown. All colours. All shapes. All sizes.
Everything we want.
So our descendants feel good. At home.
This is our intent. To feel good. Be happy, healthy, wise.
To live and thrive. In the business of being together.
In the business of people.
In the business of growing aroha. To thrive.
Everything else is a by-product.
Politics is a by-product. It’s what we all think about our intent.
Which we have sacredized with the best of us.
Sacred intent.
Using the very best of us to bind us with their words full of the intent of aroha – to grow.
The division that is thinking. Is our politics.
It has a purpose. It serves us. It serves our thinking. What we all think.
And what we all think is intent.
Our sacred intent.
We’re thinking our way through our intent. Expressing ourselves.
Puanaonao. Buds budding in the fullness of nature’s intent.
Freedom of choice being expressed.
Choices being made.
Choice of experience.
Politics of thinking.

They are not divisions.
They are separations as decribed by the old people.

Gender is our do with intent expressing itself.
All of it is ours.

Watch. Listen. Learn. Pass on.
Take the Ahorangi way with its ancestral algorithm and use it to bind us everywhere.
Ask for sacred intent.
Create. Ancestral. Ancient.
Everywhere.
Back in business.
Holistic.
Tahi.
Hawaikiian.
Complete.
Get us thinking about our intent. Our best intent. Go deep. Go wide. Go high. Go natural.
Everywhere. Ancient.
Understand that all our divisions are not.
Politics think. Religion believe. Culture do. Gender how.
They are perfect unity in motion.
The unity of our intent in the motion of our lives. Perfect.
We experience our best ways of growing aroha. Freely. Uniquely. Beautifully.
Using the very best of anything available to do so.
The best systems of living together.
The best systems of believing together.
The best systems of culture doing together.
The best systems of gender doing together.
The total of everything we do is our creation of aroha.
This is ancestral knowledge ancient.
It’s time to bind. It’s time to use our ancestors’ greatest knowledge – Te Kawa o Io the way of creation – to bind our sacred to make our aroha.
Reconnect the separation.
Think this way.
Bring Māori religions together. Fulfill prophecies.
Māori leaders, fulfill dreams.
Māori language leaders, fulfill the world of the word.
Māori corporates, here’s why you’re doing what you’re doing. Want a vision? A charter? A mission? You are our expression of our intent. It was sacredized with you in the room. By the best of us. You agreed. You’re not sure how to behave on the day? No problem, here’s how.
Māori businesses, fulfill the trade.
Māori gov depts, fulfill the quota.
Māori educationalists, fulfill the knowledge.
Māori other, fulfill the other.
Bring Tūheitia and Teheuheu together to bind and pin it all.
We bind in the topknot. We join in the bone pin.
Everyone wants fulfilling without understanding what it is.
It’s not about the individual. It’s about all our individual.
Fulfilling is about completion.
Individual is about collective.
Tangata is about atua.
It’s the fulfilling of the topknot.
Binding our strands.
Giving ourselves true worth and freedom in the bind.
Next level.
Together.
Bring Pākehā together. Tell Jacinda the story. She’ll love it.
Me myself us aware. Me myself I aware.
Transformation from individual-self intelligence to collective-self intelligence.
Aotearoa social laboratory.
External devotion religions, internal devotion religions, science people. The very best of our beliefs. The very best of our understandings.
The current technologies used to grow our aroha.
That we’ve chosen to create. Freely. Freedom. Choice. Tangata. Based on the individual-self intelligence paradigm.

Old people, leaders, thinkers, scientists, politicians, money-makers, doers, goers. Mums and dads. Whānau. Children. Mokopuna.
We are all relations. The children of sky and earth.
This is a fact.
We are related to the earth.
She is our sacred.
Aotearoa is her head.
Bring the sacred head of Papatūānuku Aotearoa together.
Bring the womb of Papatūānuku the south Pacific together.
Bring the backbone of Papatūānuku the Pacific Rim together.
Bring the people of the ring of fire together.
Fulfill the ancestral Hawaikiian narrative of the ahitāmou sacred fire.
Bring the backbone of our planet together.
Bring the hemispheres together.
Reconnect the body.
Panamaho. Transform.
And the shoulders slip through.
Baby’s here. We’ve done it.
Collective. Atua. Sacred intent.
This is the intention.
This is the purpose.
Our aroha will transform individual to collective.
In one generation.
Next gen.
Job done. Next.
Harmonize. That’s the ancestors’ comb story. For another time.
This is the Ahorangi intention.
We do this with great humility. Great reverence. Great sacredness.
Great aroha. Sacred aroha.
We do this with the greatest knowledge of our ancients leading us.
We do this with the Kawa o Io sacred aroha.
It is the bloom of the holistic Hawaikiian.
Our nation of humanity and masters of the art of together.
Being together is our science.
The science of aroha the art of connection.
The house of nature.
The science of fulfilment the art of completion. Hawaiki.
The kawa of Io is our ancients' understanding of creation.
As our ultimate ancestral heirloom, it only becomes available when enough aroha has been fulfilled.
Which is all about unfulfilled experience lessons not learnt.
Otherwise it hides in plain sight as the force which makes us atua - beyond ourselves.
Collective mode. We behave better. We are one for all.
Seen at its best on our marae, front or back, host or guest, as we look after the aroha of the people.
In the space dedicated by our ancestors for just that purpose.
Or as we sing our stories and fill our hearts doing kapa haka our ancestral performance of life - our whare atua house of nature.
The tohunga. Expert. Whose sign tohu is its behaviour.
Atua. Collective. Required to live and thrive.
Tangata. Individual. Together.
Our human is our individual. Our atua is our collective.
This is our nature.
Our aroha as individuals has filled the circle.
Which means enough of us want our atua collective.
Enough of us want to get sacred.
Which produced this message. For us.
We now have to complete what our ancestors are leading through by binding the aroha. To make a new circle. To fill. Spiral.
The way of creation of our ancients is open. Their inside knowledge the kawa of Io is realized. Its thought, language, behaviour, knowledge, information, technology, systems, algorithms, formula, codes, ethos, templates, blueprint, light and sound - aroha - are available.
Nā reira, kei ngā pangore o marangai upokohau, the next generation and bloom of our strivance, it's time to bind. Ancestral.

Binding. Our first step is to make our head sacred again. This is our beauty.
Our ancestors do it like this.
Comb and dress the hair.
Gather up the individual strands.
Bind them into a topknot.
Unite it with the carved pin.
Adorn it with the toothed comb.
Regale it with the white-tipped feather.
This is a ritual. Our binding ritual.
We know it as karakia.
It's the backbone of holistic living.
Because it’s where our individual becomes bound to our collective.
We've been part of it a thousand times. We've done it a thousand times.
It is the ancient ritual of sacred intent.
It's the ancestral system we use to bind ourselves together formally.
Which is important because if we do not have a way to bind our individual strands we cannot be our atua collective.
Which means we have no way of being sacred. No way of seeing our beauty.
That's a problem.
It is our sacred intent alone which makes our head sacred.
We need our head sacred.
Sacred is atua. Atua is collective.
Collective is sacred. Beautiful. Me myself us.
Collective intent makes our topknot.
Of individual strands.
Me myself I.
Sacred intent is its pin.
This is our beauty.
Karakia is our ancestral binding system.
It is the dedicated ritual of sacred intent that binds our human individual to our atua collective.
We need to reclaim it.
Re-target to hit its intent.
Get sacred.
See our beauty.
Fulfill and complete ourselves.
So we can all move on.

Our reclaiming needs to happen at two levels.
Level one is about giving context to personal karakia.
The personal experience of it.
This is the combing and dressing of our hair.
Getting the knots out.
Defining the strands.
Where they begin where they end.
What they’re doing.
What they’re not doing.
How they’re doing it.
Gathering them up.
This is where we understand our individual and how this connects with our collective.
Tangata individual atua collective.
Level two is about taking our personal understanding and doing something with it.
This is the binding of the strands. To make the topknot.
Which means, as a first step, everytime karakia is done, bring it back to purpose by asking for the intent of the people present.
It is our individual intent that gets bound.
Which is our very best whakapono belief.
Very best tūmanako aspiration.
By the ritual of sacred intent.
Our very best aroha.
Collective. Connected. Aroha.
With intent. Called choice. Freedom of choice.
The binding of unique choice where you decide who you are defined by your aroha.
See into the future and the natural progression of binding.
It involves unbinding as well.
Wānanga this. Find the sacred intent of our ancestors.
List every tikanga we know. Big and small.
Go into it and see its intent.
Unravel its sacred intent.
Give the sacred intent of all our tikanga to the next generation and let them figure out how we re-calibrate ourselves to the target.
Our marae for instance.
Is there another way to do what we do?
Here’s what our colonial-aware ancestors came up with.
The best they could do in their time to bridge the gap.
Go through all our tikanga. All our kawa.
Our behaviour. On our ancestors’ best space. Our marae.
Find the sacred intent left there by our ancestors.
Their sacred intent for us. Their best.
Right now we have a bicultural Māori and Pākehā mix to our way. This is the very best our natural problem-solving ancestors could come up with to bridge gaps.
The suit or shorts or blacks or colours or pants or dress or male or female, the dead the living, the sacred the noa, the layout the waharoa the marae the meeting house the dining hall.
Why are our marae here? What is the intent?
Is it serving its purpose in the best way possible?
Where are our people again? Oh in the cities. What does this mean?
The measure is singular.
Is it growing the best aroha?
Let our Ancestrals of the next generation reclaim our sacred.
Show me how again. Can we change that.
Because if the intent is that, this is how my generation would do that.
And who’s my generation again? The fullas trained to think this way.
The lastborns.
Taught by our ancestors. To behave.
Step one. Behave to survive. Behave Hawaikiian.
What do we want to survive? Our best. Fit test best. Fittest. Survive our best.
Step two. Repeat our best. Behave to it to live and thrive.
Where is our best?
On the marae. In its intention.
Change it all up next generation.
Do an ancestral audit. Are we fit for purpose?
To fit the people we are now. Whoever we are.
For the purpose of being ourselves. Whoever that is.
And at its best. Hawaikiian.
We are on the ocean of someone else’s will.
We must survive.
We must live.
Me must thrive.
Again.
Find our best. Repeat it.

Our best is sacred intention.
Where is our ancestors’ best sacred intention? For us.
Knowing all sacred intention eventually winds back to one. Knowing all whakapapa lineage winds back to one. Knowing we all wind back to one. The legacy. The purpose. The tomorrow. All of us. Descendants of sky and earth. The lastborn. The final word. Pōtiki. Old-new. Tahitohou.
The mokopuna. The grandchildren.
Here is the singular intent of all these behaviours.
Let the next generation put another way in place for us all that best grows our aroha according to the intent of our ancestors.
Which was going well until we were rudely interruped some 230 years ago when the white man did his thing stuck a building on our land waited to see what happened and then went about his business.
What might this look like? Here’s the intent. There’s the target. Here’s the arrow. There’s the bullseye.
Give ourselves a makeover so our people see our beauty.
All our people.
So we can get ancestral. Get collective. And solve ourselves.
Make this transparent as air.
This understanding is no small thing.
It moves mountains. Its doing realizes.
Our ancient binding ritual of sacred intent has a power of realization that joins dots. To make huge pictures.
For greatest clarity.
It is a mindset change and tectonic shift of seismic proportion.
Such is the strength of our me myself I, individual-is-all gene, we are unable to recognize our collective self. Ourselves in ourselves.
We are truly separated. As our ancients' timeless separation story intimately describes.
Separated for the moment at least.
But reconnection - for that's all it is - will come.
That's the other half of their origination narrative about Hinenuitepō and Māui.
It describes the behaviour of reconnection.
The whole lot of it is our ancestral story of our purpose.
Untainted.
This is what the kawa of Io is.
Nature. The nature.
The nature of connection. The behaviour of connection.
The behaviour of nature.
To live in it. Be it. Within its creation.
Which the old people studied to move past survive, to live and thrive.
Which is where we currently are.
Up the creek without a paddle as Ngātoroirang would say.
Trying to survive on the mighty ocean of someone else’s will. Let alone living and thriving on it.
Living and thriving within someone else’s will.
The ocean. Tangaroa to Tūmatauenga.
Hawaiki is the only option.
A safe space. Everyone act safe.
Sacred. Aroha. Natural. Āio.
Our ancients' art of together produces the Hawaiki state of kotahitanga holistic that we crave.
Hawaiki fulfills us.
The art of together completes us.
Natural.
Kei aku ngākau tītoko, the next generation who choose our holistic ancestral legacy.
We need to ask some good questions of ourselves.
To produce the very best answers for ourselves. So we're clear.
To begin our process of binding our individual strands to make our topknot of collective intent let's go deep – heartland karakia of intention.
In following our ancestors' way, what is our intent?
Being raised in the image of our ancestors and raising the next generation in our image, what is our intent?

Knowing the depth of our aroha for our ancestral way what is our intent?
Knowing how we feel about the sweetness of our ancestral intent, what would we like to do about it?
Knowing how we crave our collective like a flower loves sunlight, how would we like to move forward?
Knowing you are the best of us, what is your intent?
You are the generation with our ancestors' joy of life in the eyes.
Placed there ever so painstakingly by the collective blood, sweat and tears of our people over these many decades.
So we taste our sweetness fed by our ancestral best.
You have our old people's words coursing through your veins, their emotion freeing your heart, their thoughts chiseling your mind, their way enlightening your spirit.
The very reasons why we return to our dedicated aroha-binding space the marae to our atua of collective intelligence.
The very reasons we love kapa haka, its union with the collective an elixir, a tonic of potent force.
The key component being ancestral. Together.
Sacred. Aroha. Collective. Atua.
What is our intent?
In wanting the conceptual way of life of our forebears and ancients, what is our intent?
In wanting the bind of the holistic nation of Hawaiki, what is our intent?
In wanting to be better what is our intent?
Go through the layers. Unfurl them. All of them.
We want one word that describes our intent.
What we want. Really want.
For the next generation. The very best of us.
Keep stripping back until we get to the heart.
One way to do this is by sensing. Sense the mauri of it.
Sense where you think you begin and end.
Where you feel you begin and end.
Where you believe you begin and end.
Your space. Your time.
Realize that everything you are sleeps in the stone.
Dreams in the leaf.
Awakens in the bird.
Lives in us.
Binds in the topknot.
Joins in the one.
Harmonizes in the all.
Is free in the white tip.
This approach gives you a big sky to look at.
There are no wrong answers. There is only your intent.
To bind. Everything you are. Into everything we could be.
The next generation.
Which is focused on and amplified by the technology of together, the greatest behaviour of humanity, the science of aroha of our ancients.
So, new generation ancestral fed ancestral led.
The subject of our intent.
As Papatūānuku’s subject of intent is her baby, the lastborn, the next generation.
Our pōtiki lastborn. Beloved. Our nature. Holder of the way.
Two-in-one code encrypted-in-sound grandchild-listen-amplified in-the-picture-chiseled.
Ruaumoko. Direct translation sound technology.
The ancestral blueprint. Māui lastborn.
Ask the question. What is your sacred intent?
What is your blueprint?
Lastborn.
Last word of the elders.
What is our intent for you?
We've asked the multilayered question.
What is our intent in binding our individual to our collective?
What is our intent in following our ancestors' way?
What is our intent for ourselves?
What is our intent for us?

We've worked our way through and boiled it down to one word.
Say it to ourselves. Know why we're saying it.
Know what it means. Say it aloud.
It's necessary now to declare our sacred intent because it is no longer known.
Like it once was. Normalized. Holistically. Known.
When we were together.
Our connection is broken.
Our collective atua has separated from our individual tangata.
This is the legacy of the individual-self intelligence regime. The western world.
The way we live now.
Our aroha connection by which we become atua fulfilled with aroha and made collective is broken.
But fear not.
In the complete way of our forebears nothing is wasted.
The nature of individual-self intellgience and its bittersweet role will come clear in time.
When I say declare I mean announce to be heard.
Speak. Say.
Let our words from our mouths be heard.
And acknowledged by the collective in our intelligence.
Let everyone speak our single word of declared intent.
One unspoken thought.
One intent.
Ancient. Tahito.
One target.
On target.
Tahi ito.
We have our intent. We have its measure.
It’s the mokopuna. Next generation.
Future. Every time.
If this is the best of you, your best intention. Then it’s the same intention declared everytime everywhere every hui. With its unanswered question hanging in the air.
What’s in it for the mokopuna?
What’s the intent of this kaupapa for the mokopuna?
This is our intention. Everywhere.
The mokopuna.
Child-of-the-universe, etched from the pool, womb of fulfilment, listen well to your ancients sound of completion.
Direct sound meanings.
It is now declared. Known.
Out there in the universe.
Our attention turns to it. Focus.
Nature responds. Fit. Test.
It binds what is ready. To fill.
Our strands bind to fill.
To make it sacred to us all.
Your sacred to me.
Our sacred to us.
Individual strands made sacred in our topknot tikitiki.
How do we bind our intent?
How do we bind our intent? The first step is this.
Figure out where aroha comes from.
Figure out what makes aroha.
In our holistic worldview aroha is the best of us. Of everything.
It’s what makes us tick.
Aroha is the glue of the holistic world, its view, its way, its knowledge, its philosophy and practise.
The complete world of together spins on an axis of aroha.
Figuring out aroha is important. Science important.
Because to our Hawaikiian bloodline, aroha is the purpose of life.
Growing it is thriving. More aroha more holistic. More together.
Period.
Where is our aroha from?
How do we grow our aroha?
How do we grow our best aroha?
At the big end we grow it through beautiful freedom of choice.
Every choice. Starts in aroha.
And has its purpose of aroha.
Its purpose is to grow aroha.
To make us into tangata aroha.
These are the natives of Hawaiki. Aroha people. Aroha for people. The people of aroha.
Hawaiki native.
Hawaiki aroha.
Aroha fulfills and completes.
At the small end growing big aroha is a job.
In the west the choice of growing big aroha is called religion.
In the east it’s called the science of religion.
Religion is the technology we use to grow our best aroha within the individual-self intelligence mind space.

It contains the very best thinking of the very best of us on how to grow our very best aroha in the individual-self intelligence.
They are our sanctified pathways socially accepted for growing aroha and are built on devotion.
The west starts with external devotion. Built to a prophet who saw god and here’s how.
The east does internal devotion. Built to a master who saw god more and less and here’s how.
This separation from holistic is called spiritual.
That which it leaves becomes mind.
Our old people have a name for this fascinating state.
Hinengaro.
Without measure.
How do we grow our very best aroha?
The sort of aroha we wish to share with everyone.
Through a god, a prophet, a religion?
The best thinking of the best of us for our best aroha.
Fantastic choice.
Bring all that aroha with us.
Bring all that god, all that prophet, all that prophecy, all that religion with us.
If it makes the best us, the aroha us, then our collective self wants it with all its aroha.
If our god brings us joy and love, and aroha and compassion, and laughter and bliss, strength and grit, everything imaginable, then that aroha is needed in the binding.
If the internal devotion system of meditation is how we grow our aroha then let it too serve its purpose.
If it connects us.
Sees us.
Intones us.
Recites us.
Mantras us.
Stills us.
Fulfills us.
Completes us.
Challenges us.
Inspires us.
Loves us and we love it back.
With everything we have at our fingertips and beyond.
Bring it.
Bring our experience of blissful aroha to the party with all our heart and let it serve us.
As it absolutely wants to.
If we grow our aroha through no-god.
And even if others don’t know what that means.
Fantastic.
Bring our irresistible choice with us.
If it betters us.
Rationales us.
Logics us.
Sciences us.
Facts and figures us.
Proves us.
Creates us.
Materializes us.
Big bangs us.
Let it do just that and shore up our heart to serve its purpose in growing our aroha.
Let it do its job to its completion as its science demands and be deemed bonafide.
Exactly as we choose.
If our choice of aroha growing is holistic ancestral.
Perfect. Beautiful.
If it makes us behave well so others like being around. Good.
If it makes our daughter feel safe and she returns and turns our world upside down. Good.
If it heads our son’s nose in the right direction and the stars in his eyes start shining again. Good.
If it makes our wife laugh again and feel good about the aroha she has grown. Good.
If it makes me feel purpose.
If it makes us feel better.
Add it to the mix.
If it was made yesterday bring it.
If it’s a million years old bring it.
If it’s off-world bring it.
Alien, we’ll make them feel at home.
If it’s the best we’ve got bring it.
These are our brilliant, wonderful, choices.
Freedom of choice.
The grandest expression of aroha.

Grand diversity.
Infinite choice.

How we choose to grow our aroha.
The experience of being human.
Individuals.
Of our collective.
Atua.
Yes we bring it all to the party.
The genius of who we are. That we experience.
As individuals. Our bloom. Our aroha.
The individual into the collective.
The human into the atua. Fulltime.
Where we get to be sacred.
Because we wish to be together.
To see our beauty.
Our ancestral experience of aroha for us.
Experienced over thousands of years.
Defining the behaviour of what is important.
Collective. Holistic.
Together.
Sacred.
Aroha.
Science.
And then as spirals do, it blows out again.
Because in doing this we realize.
That all and everything we have experienced in our lives, has worth.
Value.
Every experience starts in aroha and has the purpose of aroha which is to grow more aroha.
Fullstop.
This is worth where it counts. In our own eyes.
For the wizened who have rung out the washing of life’s dirty clothes serial drama and all. What did we learn?
What was left over after all the pushing and shoving? Just the aroha. However long it took. However many times it took. However many times it took for us to learn.
Like unfulfilled spirals.
All that is left, is the aroha.
It doesn’t matter how bad it was how good it was the only thing left is the aroha.
Described by our elders as the fragrant one. The nose has it. Aro ha.
This is how it is everywhere at every level. No exceptions.
Aroha is the picture that stays with us the longest.
Memory is our aroha sieve.
As time goes on all else fades. Only its aroha is left.
That’s when we click. Aroha is the only thing left standing.
This is when we click. The hair strand is our experience of this, its length is us getting better at the experience.
Better is defined by better at working with aroha. Handling aroha.
It is nuclear level powerful. Beyond any material that does stuff known anywhere. Stone, metal, titanium, plastic, bullets, bombs, nuclear, other.
Aroha we handle with extreme care. One wrong move and you tip survival.
Imagine being on a canoe. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
A hundred of us. In this space.
Months. Behave to survive.
Mana and Tapu. Dominion with reverence.
Behave to live and thrive.
Live with our best. On repeat.
Expert. Together.
Āio. Peace.
Land. New.
Unknown.
Land.
Behave to survive.
Mana and Tapu. Dominion with reverence.
Behave to live and thrive.
Live with our best. On repeat.
Expert. Together.
Āio. Peace.
Holistic.
Let’s get this clear.
Our hair is us growing our aroha. One freedom of choice experience at a time. Unique to us.
And it keeps going like this unfulfilled until we get it. The only thing left of our experience is its aroha.
It is the only substance known to creation because it is the only substance creation creates with.
All other creations are to serve this purpose.
For instance, memory doesn’t forget anything. It’s all hard-wired in.
The problem is that over time the things we make crumble.
They are our creations of freedom of choice. They’re temporary.
They serve a purpose.

When we go to get the memory. The temporary falls away. Until the purpose remains.
The purpose is growing aroha. It’s the only thing left standing.
Because it’s indestructible.
The experience fades away and leaves only aroha’s indestructible intent.
The experience is yours. The intent is ours.
The bloom is yours and ours.
You have worth.
The best possible worth.
Made bonafide. Manako.
Because of us.
All of our experience produced this aroha. And this aroha is for us.
Aroha is what we bind.
Your experience has the greatest worth in the world.
It made our aroha.
How we separated as described in our ancient’s creation narrative of where they came from is well known in fact but little known in meaning.
The other half of the story – Māuipōtiki – is even better known and lesser understood.
The Atua story is about separation from the collective.
The Māui story is about reconnection to the collective.
Māuipōtiki is the lastborn, last word, final act, final completion.
Māui whose name means question to know. Self-monitor.
How are we growing ourself? Our aroha. Māui makawe rau who combs the 100 strands of hair of his head.
Who monitors his infinite pathways of growing aroha - his single purpose of life to reconnect that which is broken – sacred aroha the measure of being human.
Our intent is to grow aroha.
Once upon a time everything separated to make you and I. Once upon a time you and I reconnected to make everything.
This is our ancients' best info on the purpose of life wrapped up in their fireside story of creation using sound technology to traverse time eons and space location.
Our big separations are Rangi Papa Atua Tangata.
Our big reconnections are Tāne Hine Māui Tikitiki.
The system is Te Kore Te Pō Te Ao.
The journey is Hawaiki.
The way is Ahorangi.
The bind is now.
This is the kawa of Io.
Sacred Aroha.
Step one of the gentle art of binding. Step two next.
