Vision Ancestral

The expert navigator of Te Arawa canoe from Maketū to Tongariro is our supreme ancestor Ngātoroirangi. He navigated the canoe of Te Arawa from Hawaikī to this fair land in preparation for a unique one-off event with far-reaching effects – the topknot of the head of Papatūānuku Motherearth. This topknot means things.

Ngātoroirangi came to this land named by his ancients Panamaho. His sacred words are held in ritual karakia at Motuiti or Mōtītī a Naki, the small island off the Tauranga coast, and Ngātoroirangi’s home. Panamaho means Land of Creation, amongst other things.

This is the story of Panamaho the Land of Creation, known as Aotearoa, New Zealand, Te Ika a Māui. The ancestral name Panamaho holds the intent of Ngātoroirangi. He came here to fulfil the prophecy of his lineage; ‘tahi ki te whitu mau pūangaanga ko te waru ka noia ki te rangi’, first to the seventh hold to the head, the eighth hangs from the sky. The eighth is the lastborn, the descendant of Māuipōtiki. Ngātoroirangi came to prepare for our arrival. The arrival of the descendants of Māui the lastborn. From Hawaiki. From the seed of Rangiātea. The tribes of the Māori. The people of Sky and Earth, Ranginui e tū iho nei rāua ko Papatūānuku e takoto ake nei. Who navigate the horizon. Where land meets sky. Ever searching for the sacred whenua of Hawaikī.

And here we are, hanging from the sky as the prophecy says. Seeing for the first time through the eye of the sky ko te whatu o Ranginui, the body of his beloved Papatūānuku e takoto ake nei, Motherearth. Ko te aroha o Papatūānuku. The living body of Earth.

Tongariroriro te mahunga, tongatiputipu te whenua

Mōwainui te kōpū, muamua te tuahiwi

Arahīnene te taranga, tongatapu te hū

Murinoa te hā, ko Papatūānuku te atua

The body of Papatūānuku Planet Earth. Aotearoa is the head of Papatūānuku. The idyllic South Pacific is her placenta. The mighty Pacific Ocean is her womb. The Pacific Rim is her backbone. The Ring of Fire is her umbilical cord. The Southern Hemisphere feeds her spirit. The Northern Hemisphere feeds her mind. Planet Earth is her name. Ko Papatūānuku e takoto ake nei.

Our land is the head of Papatūānuku. Eight hundred years ago Ngātoroirangi prepared for her topknot. His preparation was the revitalizing of the Ring of Fire around the Pacific; cleaning the pipes out we could say from her navel centre bellybutton in Hawaii to all points of the ring. And most importantly to her head of Te Ika a Māui. To the centre of the North Island. Her physical umbilical cord of the fire of her body. Her Ring of Fire at once protecting her womb of the Pacific whilst feeding everywhere with her elemental body heat.

The topknot of Papatūānuku is the Mountain Clan

The topknot of Earth and Sky prepared for by Ngātoroirangi binds us. All of us. It is a Kawa Atua law of nature, it is on autopilot and in the hands of our ancestors. The bind of our strands, ngā makawerau o Māui, starts in this land with the tribes of our ancestors. It begins with the people of Tongariro of Te Kāhui Maunga. To the people who lineage to Te Kāhui Maunga. To the new people who aspire to Te Kāhui Maunga.

The bind of the children of Sky and Earth moves from her head to our tūākana seniors holding her placenta in the South Pacific, to our kin of her womb of the Pacific. To our elder firstborns of the Pacific Rim holding her backbone. Māuimua of Australia the eldest. Māuipae of South America. Māuitahā of Asia, Māuiroto of America, Māuiwaho who went out of the Pacific to the Northern Hemisphere, sister Hinauri of the female Moon that measures. These are our elders of the Māui family. We are the baby Māuipōtiki the lastborn.

The name of Ngātoroirangi continues to be spoken to 2024. The ancestor who prepares the topknot of us. Kotahitanga. Unity. When we are unable to. Sky and Earth our primordial parents of nature step in. Ko te kawa atua ia o Rangi me Papa. This is the law of Sky and Earth.

To help us topknot, special ancestral gifts are available. Tools. On the peaks of our mountains is The Greenstone Door. This is the Tataupounamu o te ao atua o Rangi me Papa, the unbreakable jade door of nature. It releases their daughters. And their knowledge. Hidden in plain sight by our ancients. On the freezing tips of the mountains where no one is meant to go. Where the sacred female lives like the song says ‘ai ua ai hau ai marangai’. She eats rain, wind and storm. The sacred female Pihanga Whakatapairu Ariki. The peaks hold the topknot of the sacred female. All of them. Starting with Papatūānuku Mothernature. This is her lineage and Kawa law. Her nature knowledge rebalances our modern division of gender.

A measuring tool to keep us on point is available. These are the symbols of Sky and Earth, Rangi and Papa. They are named Tuhirangi, the broken heart of the sky. Here’s how they work. The first symbol is I O. The line is Ranginui the Big Line. The circle is Papatūānuku the Infinite Circle. This ancient symbol is a lock. It is not a word. When the lock was spoken into existence using the written alphabet of the Whiteman, the letters i and o, Skyline and Earthcircle became a word Io. This word became a Christian Māori name for God. The symbol was placed inside heartland Māori christianity for safekeeping in the aroha of the people to be awakened on call.

This is the call. We are the children of Sky and Earth line and circle I O. Io. Awaken.

This first symbol is a lock. It safeguards the doorway to the world of nature of Rangi and Papa. The two lines unlock a second symbol. Then a third. Then a fourth. These symbols are powerful. They topknot our thinking to reset us quickly and safely to nature.

To appreciate the power of these symbols, they produced our artforms. All of them. The whakairo carvings of our canoes, and storehouses and meeting houses. The kōwhaiwhai patterns of the ridgepole and rafters. Tukutuku patterns inbetween spaces on the walls. Taniko weaving patterns, piupiu dye patterns, Games and pastime patterns. Anything with a pattern and adornment. Its artform is derived from these four symbols.

The story of Tuhirangi is held in the holystick wand of our people. The holystick of my mother’s tribe Tūwharetoa in the central plateau of the North Island, is held by the warparty of Te Heuheu, our paramount chieftain, in protection of the people. Its guardian is Rongomai the personal god of Ngātoroirangi. It descends from Tūwharetoa the man who fulfiled the prophecy of Ngātoroirangi, that in the eighth generation after him, his descendant would take the Central Plateau.

The rākautapu holystick of Tūwharetoa has six handgrips. These are the grips required to use the wand of old to optimum capacity. These are the handgrips of our Gods of nature, powers of nature, energy of nature, as we know them. In order, Rongomai of Tāne with the power of curve, Matatū of Tāwhirimatea with the power of spin, Popotau of Tangaroa with the power of flow, Huanui whitiapu of Haumiatiketike with the power of spiral, Poutama of Tūmatauenga with the power of still, Pipitō of Rongo with the power of balance. The holystick holds another level of knowledge to help us bind in the topknot of Papatūānuku.

The rākautapu of Tūwharetoa originates with our ancestor Tūmatauenga the first of our line. The human line created by Tūmatauenga and Rongowahine. It is his godstick of thriving and is the tool of our lineage that created our form. Our human line from Tūmatauenga is one of many. The hallmark of human is the use of a tool. The line of Tūmatauenga and Rongowahine used the best tool, in the best way, to make the best thrive. Stick, holystick, holistic.

The stick does eight things. Rub stick make fire, point stick make food, peel stick make clothes, raise stick make safe, boil stick make well, burn stick make pictures, tap stick make music, teach stick make legacy. Its complete legacy is formally named Maurākau how to hold a stick.

Tūmatauenga holds the wand of the ancients. The first of us who was named The God of War. Our war to live. And be Human. Tongariro mountain is Matuatetoa, the peak of warriorship. Tūwharetoa is its tribe, the house of warriors of Tū. We are the holders of the tool of the firstborn of us Tūmatauenga. Panamaho describes the bodystate of Tūmatauenga. The warrior god of war who never tires. Our ancestral carvings show this body state. Feet are turned in big toes first. Pōnāturi joints are connected to make one through the spiral of takarangi. Knees are bent engaging earth. Elbows chevron engaging midriff. Arms are light and active. Fingers are ignited. This is the atua body of One. When the sacred breath is found, the water centres, the earth moves, the fire ignites. Named Atuareretahi, the final resting place of our ancestor Tūwharetoa. Atuareretahi is the elemental body of nature; the four elements of air, water, earth, fire. Making the fifth, the element of Life. Mauri. Ora.

The bloom of Ngātoroirangi 2024, is the topknot of Papatūānuku Motherearth. It is the topknot of the children of Rangi and Papa. This is the sacred intent of Ngātoroirangi passed down his line from the first Hawaikī of our nomadic travels to find the land of creation. Te Ika a Māuitikitiki a Taranga. The land of the topknot of Taranga. Panamaho Land of Creation cries. Hawaikī opens. Rangiātea blooms. The seed.

The seed sewn at Rangiātea is held in a symbol made by the sacred lines of our atua. These are our atuagods in geometric line form. Ngā tama a Rangi. The sons of Ranginui. These sacred godlines create. They hold a new technology.

Kei aku rangatira, another world awaits us, the world dreamed of and passed down by our ancestors since time immorial. We are the lastborn of Tūmatauenga, the human line of our species who used the best tool in the best way to make the best thrive. We have returned to the head of our Mother Papatūānuku to complete what began when the first of us was born. Our task is to topknot the head of sacred Motherearth of the Land of Creation, Panamaho. It is the topknot of our Ancients, all of them. Our topknot resets us to the centre of Sky and Earth, Nature.

Ngātoroirangi’s final gift to us is his ritual karakia used to enter the sacred core of Motherearth – uruuruwhenua. It is his ritual mantra to enter the placenta of nature, into the epicentre of creation. It is a physical ritual to find the middle of the body, in the navel, in the pito bellybutton. And stay there. This is the warrior bodystate of Atuareretahi. It is to be mastered. By all who can.

Ka u ki matanuku ka u ki matarangi

Ka u ki tēnei whenua hei whenua

Māu e kai te manawa o tauhou

I join earth, I join sky

Via the placenta

Where Motherearth feeds me

This physical body ritual resets us to the heart of nature

Nau mai haere mai ki te tikitiki o Papatūānuku e takoto ake nei. Welcome to the topknot of Motherearth.
